Elena Mashkovsteva is a masterful Russian harpist and dedicated educator known for her exceptional ability to nurture musical talent. With decades of experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, Elena has become a highly respected mentor in the harp community, renowned for her skill in fostering student success.
A Foundation of Excellence
Elena’s musical journey began at the prestigious Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she trained under the legendary Vera Dulova. Her extraordinary talent was recognized early, winning First Prize at an International Competition in Moscow. She later became the principal harpist for the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra—a role that showcased her brilliance as a performer on an international stage.
A Global Performer and Local Advocate
Elena’s musical career includes collaborations with renowned orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theater Orchestra under Valery Gergiev and Mexico’s Orquesta de Bellas Artes. In the U.S., she has performed with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Opera, and Camarada. Her chamber music contributions, including DUO ELENA alongside flutist Elena Yarritu, highlight her ability to create captivating musical experiences.

While her performances are exceptional, Elena’s passion shines brightest in her role as a teacher. As a Professor of Harp at San Diego State University and leader of a thriving private studio, Elena tailors her lessons to each student’s strengths and goals. Elena’s hands-on, encouraging approach helps students of all levels build confidence, discipline, and artistry. She frequently answers questions like, “What is the best practice routine for beginners?” and “How can I prepare for competitions?” with thoughtful advice and step-by-step guidance.
